A Visit By Ghosts
Today’s letter at ABC Wednesday is “G” and the only word I could think of was green. I’ve started daydreaming of green trees, green fields, green grass, green plants … you get the picture. Spring can’t come soon enough because West Virginia is quite drab during winter – gray, brown, and muddy.
This is totally off topic, but do you know what “frud” is? Us West Virginians know all too well. Take a guess and leave a comment if you think you know.
Anyway, I was meandering through my gazillion photos in Picasa looking for something green, when I found a ghostly apparition. He just happens to be green, so what better way to illustrate “G” than green ghost?
Anyone want to take a guess on how this ghostly apparition was created?
And, yes, these photos are straight from the camera and totally unedited.
Furry Feline Friends
Can you guess what today’s ABC Wednesday letter is? I promised a few weeks ago to introduce you to my Furry Feline Friends that I cat-sit while their human works out of town. So, without further ado, meet Sammy and Scrubs …
Sammy is a stray that someone dumped off back in October. She’s a fun kitty with a very distinct personality. If it’s possible for a cat to give a human a dirty look, she does it with perfection. I laugh constantly at her different facial expressions.
Since she was a drop off, it was impossible to know if she was spayed or not. Turns out she wasn’t because she’s going to be a mommy kitty very, very soon. (I’m guessing this weekend since it’s a full moon.)
This little darling is Scrubs. She was a rescue kitty. A couple of months ago, she showed up at a local auto mechanic’s garage. She had some physical problems, but showed a lot spunk and was really sweet. The owners of the garage were afraid she’d get hurt even more with the constant movement of vehicles in and out of the garage.
So, about a month ago, she got a ride to her new home where she’s been pampered and loved on. She’s not out of the woods physically but she’s doing much, much better now. Most of her problems are because of her short little stub tail …
In this area of West Virginia, bobtail cats are quite popular, and there’s a genetic group of cats that are true bobtails. However, Scrubs isn’t a true bobtail. One glimpse at her little stubby tail reveals that it was chopped off.
According to the vet, people assume that bobtails are easier to find homes for, so when kittens are born, people cut the tails. Personally, I think it is quite cruel, and I imagine that little Scrubs would agree.

C is for …
C is for … what else but CAT! Did you seriously think I would come up with a better C word? (I did … once. You can see the CAVES here.)
Sassy Lou is my only kitty furbaby that I have left. She’s definitely my little sweetie!
Most of my cat herd went to new homes this past summer / fall. It was starting to get too expensive paying for food, shots, flea prevention, and vet visits for 6 cats!!!
Winks and Sylvester, my two boys that I had for about 7 years, disappeared during 2009. Both went outside and never came home. Thankfully it wasn’t at the same time but about 9 months apart. Part of me wonders if they found new homes or exactly what happened.
Buttercup went to a new home not too far away along with two rescue kitties that were found along the road. (Yep, at one point, there were 8 cats/kittens in the house.) The lady that adopted them said all three were the best cats she ever had in her life!
Buttons moved in with a three-year-old girl and I’m positive that they are the best of friends and spend hours and hours playing together.
Penelope ventured to the next door neighbor’s farm where she has a barn full of mice all to herself. Why share a barn with other cats when you can have your very own? I still see her every couple of days on my way out of the hollow.
So while all of my furbabies have found new homes, I’m glad Sassy Lou is still around. She’s a great companion, prefers getting in my face when I type, and has the quietest meow of any cat. (Who wouldn’t love a quiet kitty?)
One day soon I’ll introduce you to the two kitties that I cat-sit during the week…

N is for Naughty
It’s been forever since I participated in ABC Wednesday, so I was really excited when I saw that this week’s letter was “N.” I immediately thought of the perfect picture …

Even if Mandy is being naughty by getting up on the car hood, I think she looks so sad. Maybe she forgot where she buried a treat?
Anyone have experience breaking a beagle from jumping up on the car hood??? Mandy loves to perch on the hood and watch the world go by. She started doing this with my Escort and then with the above car that I borrowed from a friend after my accident. So far, I haven’t seen her on the Corolla hood. I’m hoping the hood is too slanted for her to stay on it.
