My Daily Routine

Do you have a daily routine? I discovered this past month that I do! Shocking, huh?

I’ve mentioned before that I’m not one for schedules and following them. Put a written schedule in front of me and watch my day fall apart. LOL

I. Cannot. Follow. A. Schedule. I think it has something to do with my life revolving around school schedules for so long.

However, disrupt my daily routine and watch out!

Here’s the pattern my day follows…

  • Rise-n-Shine
  • Devotions – Typically, I read the Proverbs 31 devotional on my iPod before I crawl out of bed. This is my sure-fire way to make sure I have my devos every weekday. I also add random studies throughout the day depending on where I am spiritually.
  • Social Media Time – A quick glance at e-mail to make sure nothing important needs taken care of, a browse through Twitter and Facebook, and maybe a few minutes in Google Reader hitting my favorite blogs. Again, I read these on my iPod so I don’t get sucked in to the computer.
  • Shower/Dress
  • Pet time – With our cats and especially the dogs, it’s important to give them face-to-face time. I spend about 30-45 minutes petting, scratching, playing, feeding etc. Without this time, the critters tend to be pesky throughout the day often disrupting my concentration.
  • Housework – Vacuuming, dusting, start laundry. All that fun stuff. I tend to spread out the work when I take breaks from writing and reading, but I start in the morning.
  • Snack - Usually an early lunch or late breakfast.
  • Computer time – Respond to e-mails, write blog posts, read blogs, do research, any editing jobs, etc.
  • Gardening – Sometimes this is actual garden work like pulling weeds. Bleh. Other times it’s just simply enjoying the flowers, dreaming about what can be improved or added, and taking photos of the newest blossoms. I try to spend 15-20 minutes each day in my gardens.
  • Reading – I read a lot of books and need to set aside time each day to read so I don’t fall behind. This is usually a 1-2 hour block of time. Now that the weather is nicer, I enjoy sitting outside while reading and soaking up some Vitamin D. An added benefit is that since I started sitting outside each day, I haven’t had trouble with insomnia. What a relief!
  • Dinner Prep – The important part of the day =)
  • Evenings are fairly flexible but usually consist of writing/reading/blogging/visiting friends/tutoring. And before heading to bed, I make one last round of social media – email, Twitter, Facebook, and blogs.

I know that this is my daily routine because if I don’t/can’t do one of the above I feel totally discombobulated. (Don’t ya just love that word? It sounds so much better than “frustrated.” LOL)

  • I do love the word discombobulated! It’s so fun to say.
I’m also not good with a written, timed schedule; but I generally follow the same order every day.
I’m trying to make more of a schedule to build an online business.
    How’s your project going?

  • I have been looking looking around for this kind of information. Will you post some more in future? I’ll be grateful if you will.

  • Now I, om the other hand, HAVE to have lists because I have so much going on in my head at any given time. I use Outlook and it’s nice little bell rings and popups are just the sort of visual cues I need. I also read a lot of books at a time and am usually working on so many things at once that I never get to do a bit of it all every day SO, I break it up (even the books) and allocate time via Outlook – it’s literally the only way I get anything completed AND it declutters my brain which needs it sorely!
