Giveaway: Making Work At Home Work by Mary Byers

making-work-at-home-workAre you one of the millions of work-at-home moms or work-at-home wives? Do you struggle with separating your work time from your family time? Feeling a little stressed out about being pulled in every direction?

Mary Byers’ new book, Making Work at Home Work, might be the solution you’re looking for. This isn’t a book about starting a business, but a book for those already in the middle of balancing life and work when there’s no distinct boundaries between the two.

Mary doesn’t pull any punches. Her writing style is straightforward. She tells it how it is. She’s been in so many of our shoes. As a work-at-home mom, she knows the struggles of answering a business call with a screaming toddler in the background. She knows the strain an at-home business can put on a marriage.

While Making Work at Home Work is geared towards moms and “successfully growing a business and a family under one roof,” work-at-home women without children will still benefit from the many strategies and tips Mary includes. I highly suggest that any woman who works from her home pick up a copy to read. It doesn’t matter how big or small your business is, you will benefit from Making Work at Home Work.

In fact, I speak from personal experience – I don’t have children and I have learned a lot from Mary’s book. I did skim over two chapters  – The Parental Pact and Child Care Strategies – simply because they don’t apply to my situation. The rest of the book, however, is very beneficial and worth a read by every woman who manages any type business from her home.

Here’s the back cover copy…

Making Work at Home Work by Mary Byers is a guidebook for entrepreneurial women designed to help them think about their business in a whole new way. It covers important topics such as developing a successful business philosophy, balancing time between work and family, setting realistic goals, and handling the challenges of being a home-based CEO. In addition to including her own experiences, Byers profiles a dozen other women with home-based businesses who offer their hard-won advice.

  • I work from home. And I have been struggling. I feel like I’m working all the time (I freelance, so I have more than 1 client). And then I get the guilt for feeling I don’t spend enough time with my family – giving them my full attention. Oh, and then there’s taking care of the house, too. So, yeah, I think I could benefit from a book like that.

  • I work at home as publisher and editor of Two-Lane Livin’ magazine, offered free, monthly, to readers in 15 counties of Central WV.

  • I have a friend who works home based, a single mom. She has 3 clients. I have seen how she struggles to cope all her tasks on each of her client. I guess, it depends on you if you can handle more than 1 client then go. If you can’t then settle for one.

  • ive always wanted to have a job where I can both be with my kids and still work. The closest thing I have found would be to work for a year-round camp. Kids can grow up at camp, you are always there, work is in your back yard. must be perfect!

  • Working at home isn’t easy for men or women… I’ve done it since 1983, though my wife was the stay-at-home primary care giver for the first few years of our daughter’s life. But what I think each of us can do is start at least one blog on a topic that we love. And when you get it moving, it’s time to get people to notice it (twitter can help with that) and then get people to play to read it. It’s not easy and there are lots of steps, but working from home and putting in time when you HAVE the time works well with something like this. Let me know if I can help you understand this better.
