At the end of 2008, I posted three personal goals for 2009. Since three months have gone by, I went back and revisited my goals. Here’s my original goals…
- I want to strengthen my business. We need a more consistent income in that area, so that’s going to be my top priority.
- I want to organize. Not that I’m not organized now, but I need a more settled routine for reading, reviewing, blogging, working, tutoring, advertising, networking, twittering etc. I’m starting to feel very scatter-brained … and that’s not a good thing!
- I want to write my novel! As soon as I have the monetary means, I plan to start working with a writing mentor and hopefully, get the story burdening my heart on paper!
So, how am I doing?
Strengthening: I feel like I’m doing okay in this area. The income is still sporadic; however, I’ve taken time to set very specific goals and work towards achieving those goals. We won’t be able to live solely off my income any time soon, but what income I generate definitely helps.
Organizing: Definitely feeling better in this area! My best investment was my iPod Touch which goes everywhere I go. My calendar is a click away, and I can catch up with Twitter, e-mail, and blogging in a couple of seconds. Having a one-stop place for all my information is great. I don’t have to sit down with my laptop and watch time fly away.
Writing: More progress in this area too! I haven’t done a lot of actual writing (goal #1 takes priority). I’m working with a writing mentor and recently joined ACFW, so I feel good.
One thing that has helped me immensely the past two months is meeting with a business accountability partner. Every Thursday afternoon I meet online for about an hour with a wonderful person I met via Twitter. We spend time rejoicing over what we’ve accomplished, picking each other’s brains for ideas, and setting new goals for the next week. I thank God that He placed @stargardener in my life! We share the belief that God directs our paths and nothing is an accident.
At this point, I don’t feel like I need to set new goals or change my current goals. I’ll revisit them in three months with the hope of changing #3 to “finish writing” meaning I’ve made good progress and am near the end!

Congratulations! Interesting coincidence that you wrote about this, Kara. Because I feel the same way about our meetings, and just posted about the benefits of accountability partners!
BTW, for the record, I am slowly accomplishing my goal of reading the articles in my Google Reader! (One of those goals we discussed two weeks ago … And why I am just now reading your post!)
