Best investment I ever made

Yesterday and today were the kind of days that I stay inside and hibernate – rain, rain, and more rain. If I absolutely have to go outside, my feet go in these…

My mud boots, however ugly they may be (I really want a cute pair like these), are the best investment I ever made. You see, our yard is still dirt with only a few patches of grass. Two days of rain on dirt = mud. Walking on mud makes shoes and paws yucky.

Unfortunately, I haven’t figured out how to keep the critter paws clean. I wonder if they make mud boots for dogs? I think ours need them…

img_4019Or maybe a whole body mud suit? Mandy, the beagle, is supposed to be white, brown, and black. Sadie is black and white. I think the white got lost today.

img_4020Spot, the GIANT horse puppy, is all white minus his black spots. Not anymore!!!

img_4021Isn’t that gross? The leg and paw belong to Honey, our cinnamon Chow/Collie.

img_4025Sadie had the right idea – washing. Her idea didn’t last long …

I’m so glad I can wear boots, even if they are ugly.

One of “those” days

Have you ever had one of those days? I think I’m having one of those weeks.

I live my life by to-do lists, goals, and schedules … to a certain point. I’m very flexible as far as when I do things, so I’m not a slave to the schedule like I know some people are.

Most of my lists and goals are stored inside my head or maybe on my iPod Touch (have I told you how much I love that thing?). I know I have certain things to do by a certain time, and I work towards finishing on time.

Then, one of those days happens. Everything I thought I’d accomplish for the day doesn’t happen. The Farmer wants to go somewhere. The computer goes bonkers. Dinner is still in the freezer at 5 p.m. I don’t write a single word, my e-mail inbox is exploding, and housecleaning is out of the question.

Well, I’ve had a whole string of those days. The simplest tasks seem to get thrown out of proportion by some mini-disaster happening.

I keep telling myself that life will go back to normal soon, but I wonder if this is the new normal? Ack! Then I remember …

It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23

It’s party time!

Ultimate Blog Party 2009

I can’t believe that it’s time for the Ultimate Blog Party again! Seems like we just had last year’s party!

The Ultimate Blog Party is a great way to find new blogs and meet new online friends. And the UBP also has some awesome prize giveaways. Who doesn’t love giveaways?

What prizes would I like? These two would be nice…

But I really, really, really want #58 Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixer from Moms Who Think. Um, I think I’m coveting at this point. LOL

Here’s a little about me and my blog…

Ramblings-n-Writings is all about life and critters. You’ll find posts about our life in general, my attempts to write a novel, book reviews, writing/publishing, and lots of photos of farm life.

The Farmer (my hubby) and I live adjacent to my in-law’s farm in central W.Va. Our farm critters include cows, calves, pigs, ducks, chickens, guineas, turkeys, cats, and dogs.

The Farmer tries to help out on the farm when he’s physically able – he suffers from RSD in his right knee, so occasionally I write about his disability along with our 5 year battle with worker’s compensation.

What do I do? I work from home operating Skala Creative and am an online English tutor. Besides keeping up my business, I’m one of the girls in the garden over at Garden Vines along with Jendi from Jendi’s Journal.

Besides working, reading lots of books, taking photos, and gardening, my time is spent figuring out how to stretch our income and finding friends online via Twitter.

I is for injured

mandy

Mandy is on our injured dog list with a dislocated knee cap. She’s been limping a lot the past week, so yesterday we took her to the vet. (Read her story.) We’re hoping that with medicine and anti-inflammatories, she’ll avoid needing surgery.

But for now, she’s banned from chasing squirrels and rabbits, running a lot, and doing stairs. Everything a beagle loves to do. So, not a bad set of rules … if you’re anything but a beagle. The next 10 days should be interesting!
