Is it almost over?

*Update 3/13/09 – Long story short, we didn’t settle the case yesterday. We negotiated for about an hour, but our attorney had an unexpected conflict of schedule (judge moved a hearing time from 3 p.m. to 11 a.m.). At this point, the mediation is “continued” meaning that as soon as it works out for everyone’s schedule, we will continue the negotiations.

We’re fine with this happening. We’ve survived over 4 months since comp cut off the disability pay, and we can survive longer.

If, at the continued mediation, we don’t reach a satisfactory agreement, the case will go back before the judge in about 3 months. If that happens, we stand a very good chance of winning the argument over the discontinuation of the Farmer’s disability. Essentially it boils down to how comp accepted him as PTD (permanent total disability), the paperwork they filed, and the fees they paid. Once the judge sees that information, more than likely although not guaranteed, he/she will rule in our favor because they cannot randomly suspend given the procedures they followed.

So, even though yesterday didn’t work out as expected, we have hope and will continue pressing forward as we have been.

Thank you so much for all your prayers and kind words! Please continue to pray that God’s will be done through the whole situation. He alone can do above what we ask or think and He has proven Himself faithful to us time and time again. – end update*

Five years, four months, and five days. 11-07-03

That’s when the Farmer’s life changed forever. That’s the date we recite at every doctor’s visit. In our lives, that’s a day that will go down in our family history.

It’s been a long journey. Painful … frustrating … stressful. We’ve heard scary words – RSD, never better, spinal cord stimulators, canes, braces. Yet we’ve also had hope of healing, of provision, of resolution, only to have a lot of it taken away … over and over.

Today, at 9:30 a.m. (EST), we’re praying it will finally be over. At last, we’ll be entering negotiations with workers compensation to hopefully settle the case.

Would you keep us in mind as you go about your day? Ask God to give us wisdom and peace about what is put before us. We need His guidance, yet we know that He alone can supply all our needs above what we ask or think.

(And, yes, in case you’re wondering, I really did write this at 1:20 a.m. because I couldn’t sleep. Tomorrow could be another day that goes down in our family history. I’m nervous, excited, anticipating, scared and just about anything else. And, yes, the hubby is peacefully sleeping. Figures, huh?)

P.S. – Even though we’re scheduled for 9:30 a.m., pray for us after that too because attorneys are never on time especially when two are involved. :-) At a previous meeting, opposing counsel got lost and was over an hour late … after he drove past the office twice and missed the large glaring sign by the road. LOL

P.S.S. – If you’re new around here, there’s some posts in the archives about the Farmer’s injury and our battle with compensation. Look in Sept/Oct/Nov 2007 and Feb/March/Sept/Nov 2008.
