Faith ‘n’ Fiction: First Book
The new name for My Friend Amy’s Saturday Christian Fiction Carnival is Faith ‘n’ Fiction – isn’t that so much better?
Today’s question is: What’s the first book in the Christian fiction genre you can remember reading? What was your impression of it? Did it make you want to read more or less?

I started reading Christian fiction at an early age, so the first books I remember reading are Patricia St. John’s Treasures of the Snow, Rainbow Garden, The Secret at Pheasant Cottage and Lois Gladys Leppard’s Mandie series when she first started writing them. Fast forward a couple of years and I remember the Thoene’s Zion Covenant series along with Judith Pella’s Russian series.
I loved all those books. My impressions, particularly of the Zion and Russian books, were how alive and realistic the people seemed. I couldn’t wait to read more or for the next book to come out.
I don’t know that I’ve ever read a book that made me want to read less. Well, maybe some college textbooks, but those aren’t fiction.

I havent heard of those books. Well, someone has mentioned the Zion books before. I love it when books captivate and make you want more!
Oh, college textbooks definitely dont count! Zzzzzzzzzzz
I have heard of the Zion series and the Russian series quite often. I think I really need to check them out. I’m glad you brought them up!
I’ve heard of most of those books, but haven’t read them. I’m starting to think I should add a few to my wish list!
I haven’t read those either. With so many to choose from, it’s an exciting time to be a reader.
I have not read any of these books, but have seen them at the Library. My daughter loved the Mandie books.
Would those be good books for a Christmas present for my 10yr old grandson? He loves to read and is really interested in learning more about Jesus right now.
Marvin, Your grandson would probably enjoy Patricia St. John’s books. I read them when I was his age. Some of her stories are about girls and some are about boys – all are good and teach various biblical truths. The Mandie series are really good mysteries, but the main character is a girl, and some boys might not like reading about a girl. You might want to check out writtenwindows.blogspot.com – she writes reviews of children’s books. Most of her reviews are for early level books but you might find some ideas.
I haven’t read any of those books, though I have seen them at the library. The Russians series looks especially interesting.
I don’t think college textbooks will ever be considered interesting reading. : )
I haven’t read these books yet.
