Faith ‘n’ Fiction: Great Book to Buy for Christmas

This week’s Faith ‘n’ Fiction question from Amy is…

‘Tis the season to find the perfect gifts for our loved ones. What books should be others be buying for Christmas?

My favorite book (out of the thousands that I’ve read) is the autobiography Evidence Not Seen by Darlene Diebler Rose. “This is the true story of a young American missionary woman’s courage and triumph of faith in the jungles of New Guinea and her four years in a notorious Japanese prison camp. Never to see her husband again, she was forced to sign a confession to a crime she did not commit and face the executioner’s sword, only to be miraculously spared.”

Honestly, this book reads better than any fiction story I’ve ever read. I tend to not re-read books except for this one. Each time I re-read it, my personal faith is challenged and the tissue box is empty. :)

Who would I recommend Evidence Not Seen for? Both men and women who desire to understand what faith in God is all about. The book is not “girly” in any way even though it is about a woman.

The personal details of the story are graphic at times, but not offensive; with that said, this book would be great for teens, both boys and girls, to read alone as long as they have the maturity to handle the details.

This would also be a great story to read together as a family. Darlene’s faith and God’s answers to her prayers will help younger children see how God helps those who seek Him. And the most amazing thing is that the entire story is true!

Wordless Wednesday: Buttercup

Meet Buttercup!

She loves the TV remote.

She takes lots of kitten naps.

When she’s not napping, she’s playing.

Playing means climbing up and down the old recliner. It makes a great scratching post except if someone is in it. :)

What am I Reading?

On the fourth Tuesday of every month, 5 Minutes for Books hosts What’s on Your Nightstand carnival. So, what books am I reading or planning to read in the next month?

Sitting on my nightstand is Faking Grace by Tamara Leigh. It’s a perky chick lit book that I’ve enjoyed so far.

On the living room endtable (does that count as a nightstand?), is Billy: The untold story of a young Billy Graham… by William Paul McKay & Ken Abraham.

Those are the two that I’m currently reading. On the “to be read” pile is Dark Pursuit by Brandilyn Collins, Blue Heart Blessed by Susan Meissner, and The Forgiving Hour by Robin Lee Hatcher.

I have no idea if I’ll get to read all those, but I’d like to think that I will! :) The holidays mean mixed up days and possibly not a lot of reading time.

Does your reading schedule change during the holidays?
