They’re Baaack
Look at our door window…
These little critters, as cute and charming as most people think ladybugs are, INVADE! They come in droves when the leaves start falling. By droves, I mean like a couple thousand. No joke.
As I’m sitting here on the living room sofa writing this, I’m counting 19 on the outside of the window screen. And there’s quite a few flying around. That’s just in one area.
Yesterday I was doing a little garden work and then sitting on our porch steps. The entire time ladybugs dive-bombed me. Thankfully they don’t hurt when they hit, but it is annoying to feel them crawling all over you. On the icky side, when you pick them up, they leave a slight odor and a yellow slime mark. I had to retrieve one from inside my shirt – yuck!
Most of the ladybugs migrate to the sunniest side of the house to crawl up under the siding and stay warm for the winter. Right now, it’s almost impossible to enter our mud room which gets strong afternoon sun. Opening the door causes a swarm, and quite a few of the little darlings fly in.
The best remedy for an inside invasion? Vacuum. Vacuum. Vacuum. Windowsills and the part between the window and the screen are particularly attractive to these darlings too.
One good thing about the Japanese ladybug invasion this year is we will learn just how “tight” our new house is. The little darlings enter through any crack or crevice they can find.
For more information, read my post about last year’s invasion.

Kaishon liked these a lot : ). I told him about the slime and the smell and he thought they were even cooler. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. I love your parents. I am glad they were able to visit! Delightful : )!
Becky, how many does Kaishon want? I’ll package them up and send them! =) =) =)
