Needing a New RSS Reader
Until yesterday, I was a fan of Bloglines. In fact, in April I wrote a post about Bloglines when I first started using the program. Sometime this summer something started happening. (by the way, do you like the alliteration in that last sentence?)
My Bloglines notifier wouldn’t tell me when new posts were available. I’m not talking about 1 or 2 posts – more like 30 or 40 new ones. Then some posts would take forever to show up as new. (Example: a blogger wrote a post yesterday morning and Bloglines would finally tell me about it this evening.)
This week I noticed comments by fellow Tweets (that’s people who use Twitter (you can follow me here)). Other people were having the same problems and some to a far greater extent than I was.
So I went on a hunt for a new RSS feed reader. First, I tried Sage since I use Firefox as my browser. I liked Sage, but I had one problem with it – it’s not web-based meaning I couldn’t access my feeds from another location other than my laptop.
Next I checked out Google Reader (GR). I love it! I experimented for a day and ran GR and Bloglines side-by-side. On all occasions, GR notified me before Bloglines.
Come back tomorrow to find out what features I like about Google Reader and how it compares to Bloglines.
