Useful Posts about Writing and Researching
Over the past month or so, I’ve been accumulating a list of websites and blog posts that I think contain valuable information for writers. Most of these sites I’ve found through the recommendations of others.
- Linda Fulkerson’s Fiction Fundamentals – “This site contains the archives of the former site “Fiction Fundamentals,” the instructional blog of Linda Fulkerson. The purpose of this website is to help novelists, both experienced and aspiring, to further their skills in the craft of fiction writing.” Fulkerson’s posts contain a wealth of information, and I’m actually disappointed that she isn’t continuing the blog.
- Shelly Thacker Meinhardt’s Researching the Historical Novel – Since historical novels are a passion of mine, I enjoyed reading Meinhardt’s tips for doing research. She offers Seven Steps to Successful Research, Favorite Research Books, and Favorite Online Resources (note that some of the links no longer work). Her seven steps are practical and helped me map out where I’m going with my storyline.
- Rachelle Gardner’s Publisher News – Want to know what types of stories publishing houses are looking for right now? Gardner offers a brief paragraph about eight of the major Christian houses, including Abdingdon Press who is starting a new fiction line. If you don’t read Gardner’s blog on a regular basis, you really should. She offers excellent advice to authors and highlights industry chatter.
Here’s your assignment for the week: Take some time to peruse the above sites, and then come back and leave a comment. Tell me which sites you thought were helpful, what your favorite things were about the sites etc. If you have some favorite posts about writing or publishing (whether they’re yours or someone else’s), leave a link in the comments so we can check them out!
I’ll highlight some more sites next Sunday!
