About a year ago, a local librarian introduced me to books by Jan Karon. I thoroughly enjoyed Karon’s Mitford series, found them delightful to read, and recommend them. When the rumors started that a new Karon book was coming out, I was thrilled! I had to wait for the library to get their copy and then wait in line for a few other readers, but I finally read Home to Holly Springs (Book #1 in the Father Tim series) yesterday.
While I enjoyed the story and traveling back to Father Tim’s past (the main character in the Mitford series), I was slightly surprised at the random occurrences of swear words. I realize that the book is not published by a Christian publisher, but after reading the entire Mitford series, I was taken aback. Did anyone else have this reaction?
I did find Karon’s methods for dealing with modern day “hot topics” quite satisfying. And I was equally impressed with her promotion of adult stem cell use for medical treatment. However, I somehow left the book slightly disappointed. Maybe it was the lack of Mitford characters, the random confusion with two characters of the same name, the missing quaintness of Mitford…I don’t know. More than likely I’ll read #2 in the series.
Have you read Home to Holly Springs? If so, leave a comment and let me know what you thought!
