Books I Plan to Read

I received a really awesome box today – it was full of books! :) I felt like a child at Christmas because it’s been quite some time since I treated myself to buying books. Of course, I did the frugal thing and checked the local library first for the books before ordering them. :) So, what books were in my box?

1. The Grand Weaver by Ravi Zacharias – I follow Victoria Gaines’ blog and she did a series of posts of Zacharias’ quotes. After reading some quotes from the book, I immediately put it on my “to read” list. I’m hoping the book is as good as the quotes are! :)

2. Write His Answer: A Bible Study for Christian Writers by Marlene Bagnull – This is another book that I read about somewhere and was fascinated by what I read.

3. An Introduction to Christian Writing by Ethel Herr – Herr’s book appears to be more of an instruction manual for writing than an inspirational piece. I’m eager to read her suggestions for improving writing.

(Anyone see a pattern in the book topics?!?!)

4. Writing for the Soul by Jerry B. Jenkins – Given the success of Jenkins’ Left Behind series and other books, I thought it would be interesting to read his perspective on writing and how to get the most out of writing. I’ve read both good and bad reviews of this book, so I’m not sure what to expect.

5. Legends of Literature edited by Phillip Sexton – This book contains pieces by Stephen King, H.G. Wells, Eudora Welty and other recent authors who contributed to Writers’ Digest magazine at some point. I like to study how others write and somehow this book seemed like it would be a good one to pick up.

I have two more books that didn’t ship with these, so I’ll have Christmas again tomorrow. I’m hoping to discuss in future posts the things I’ve learned from the books. Let me know if you have read any of these books, and we’ll start a book discussion! :)

hey, there. I have that writer’s bible study too. never done it. maybe I’ll dig it out and give it a go when CBS is done for the year. and our dog chewed our computer wires when we first got him. I was surprised he didn’t get zapped.

monica – here via Marianne’s blog, for the first time. nice to meet you. I used to work in newspapers too. :)
