Novel Progress
First, I started my NaNoWriMo project last week. I’m about 5,000 words behind the goal for this day, but, hey, at least I started!
Actually, I’ve been quite impressed with the ease that I’m able to write my story. I still have no clue where it is going in the end.
I read some advice not too long ago, and I think I believe it now. The advice was something along the lines of “don’t plan your story from beginning to end. Meet your characters and let them take you where they want to go.”
If you think about it, that advice is more like life. When we meet a new person, we don’t plan our friendship out for the rest of our lives. No, we take it one day at a time. Some people become really awesome friends, others are just a “Hello, how are you doing?” friend.
So, I think I’m going to let my friendship with my characters take me wherever they lead.
What’s the story about? Well, so far I have Elsie who buys a bunch of boxes of junk at an auction. In the boxes are some antique items including a wedding gown and a journal. Then there’s her unexpected guests who are in the area for a wedding. Jake is dealing with ghosts from his past on the trip, the major ghost being the death of Elsie’s cousin 17 years before. I’m not sure where tonight’s journey will take me, but I’ll add more as the plot thickens.
If you have any suggestions, let me know!!!!
